Privacy policy
CVI Book Builder (cvibookbuilder.com) is a free tool for making CVI-friendly story books. Addison Graham operates this site. This page explains what happens to information when you use it.
The English text is the official wording. The Arabic text is a translation for readers of the Arabic interface.
The short version
We do not collect your books. The tool is free. Your text, photos, and PowerPoint file are processed in your browser, on your device, and are not uploaded to us.
We do not collect your book
There is no account and no sign-in. We do not ask for your name, email address, school, or payment details in order to use the tool.
We do not receive:
- book titles, story text, or salient features
- photos, PDFs, EPUBs, or page images you open
- TVI session notes or FVA/LMA summaries
- the PowerPoint file the app builds
Those stay on your device. Export, print, and sharing happen only when you do them yourself. We do not use your book to train models.
We do not use advertising, analytics, or tracking pixels. We do not sell personal information. We do not set cookies.
What this browser remembers
The site saves a few settings in local storage on this device, in this browser only:
- drafts of your book (up to 25), including text and images you have added, when a book title is filled in
- light or dark theme
- language (English or Arabic)
- whether you have already opened the start screen
We never receive that data. You can delete drafts in the Drafts panel, or clear this site’s data in your browser settings. A shared or school computer will still show those drafts to the next person who uses the same browser profile. If your notes include a student’s name or other school information, follow your school’s rules and do not leave them on a shared browser.
What your browser requests from other sites
Opening the site loads the page from GitHub Pages, which hosts cvibookbuilder.com. That request includes the usual technical details a web server sees, such as your IP address and browser type. We do not add our own visitor log on top of GitHub’s.
The app then loads software libraries from the jsDelivr CDN (cdn.jsdelivr.net), including tools for PowerPoint export, PDF and EPUB reading, HEIC photo conversion, and in-browser OCR. Your book files are not part of those downloads. jsDelivr sees the request for the library file.
These features download extra files only when you use them. Your pages and photos are still processed on your device:
- OCR (Digitize Book). Recognition models download from GitHub (
media.githubusercontent.comandraw.githubusercontent.com). The page image is not uploaded. - Background removal (Image Isolator). The sharper model downloads from Hugging Face (
huggingface.co) the first time you remove a background. Your photo is not uploaded. See the Hugging Face privacy policy. If that model cannot run, a fallback model downloads from IMG.LY (staticimgly.com). Your photo is not uploaded to IMG.LY. See IMG.LY’s privacy policy. - Wikimedia Commons search. The words you type are sent to
commons.wikimedia.orgso it can return pictures. If you pick one, your browser downloads that image from Wikimedia. Do not type a student’s name or other private details into that search. See the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy.
Choices that leave this site
- AI tools. Copy AI Formatting Prompt only copies text to your clipboard. If you paste a story into ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, or another assistant, that service receives it under its own policy. This site does not connect to those assistants.
- Clipboard copies (image prompts, the FVA/LMA summary, digitized page text) stay on your device until you paste them somewhere.
- Download PowerPoint saves a file on your device.
- Tip me opens Buy Me a Coffee in a new tab. Tips are optional. The tool stays free without one. We do not see your card or payment details.
- Email. If you write to grahamthetvi@icloud.com, we receive what you send and use it only to answer you. We do not add you to a mailing list. You can ask us to delete that email.
Children
Teachers and families use this tool to make books for children with cortical visual impairment. The site is not directed at children, and it does not ask children to create accounts or send us personal information. Keep children’s names and other identifying details out of Wikimedia search, and out of any AI tool you paste into, unless you have already decided that is appropriate.
How long information lasts
We do not keep a copy of your books. Browser drafts stay until you delete them, your browser clears them, or the app drops the oldest draft past the limit of 25. Emails you send us are kept only as long as we need them to respond, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
Changes
If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
